The 980 Pro and 990 Pro NVMe SSDs routinely outperform benchmarks and are mentioned in build instructions from online hardware publications. They are quick and well-liked, but in some configurations, they frequently cause Blue Screen of Death errors. The link between Windows BSOD incidents and Samsung’s NVMe drives is more specific than a quality control catastrophe. For many impacted customers, the solution has been as simple as opening Magician and installing an available firmware update that Samsung has issued to address specific crash signatures. The issue is that the machine must be stable enough to run Samsung Magician in order to install the update, which isn’t always the case when crashes occur frequently.
Disconnecting all of the machine’s connections is the quickest diagnostic step. External docks, USB drives, SD cards, and even monitors with USB-C hub connections.
